The Design

“Choose sport- or chunky-weight!”

Inspired by our ever-popular Easy Folded Poncho, this scaled-down version is totally seamless and slips easily over the shoulders. The simple shape makes it easy to re-yarn in another gauge. Just swatch for a softly draping fabric, then multiply the schematic dimensions by your stitch gauge—the math is easy!

A soft, sport-weight yarn, like String Blossom, offers a more polished look, while a plush, chunky-weight yarn, like Rowan , yields bold coziness!

This 4-page pattern includes:

  • Color photography by the talented Jared Flood
  • Special Technique—Provisional Cast-on: Crocheted Over Needle
  • Comprehensive sizing schematics
  • Instructions for finishing and blocking your piece

GAUGE
It’s best to swatch both flat and in the round. You may need two different needle sizes to get gauge for each section.

Chunky-weight: 13 sts/21 rows = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking.

KNITTER'S NOTES
Much like our beloved Easy Folded Poncho, this project is so simple and so enjoyable, you’ll want one in every yarn you can get your hands on! The key to re-gauging is to knit a generous swatch, one that’s at least 6” x 6”. Wet block your swatch, allow it to dry thoroughly and let it rest. You want a softly draping fabric that has some body but isn’t stiff. Once you have a fabric you like, measure and note your stitch gauge—Use the free re-gauging worksheet to do a little bit of simple math to achieve the finished dimensions.

The 2-stitch I-cord side edges and bind-off give a beautiful, minimalist finish. Don’t skip the pressing step on this one—that’s what gives the fabric a designer ready-to-wear finish.
